Typewriter-repairs is part of Portsmouth business systems and run by Howard Smith. Howard started his working life with Olivetti, spent many years working his way up through the business and eventually started his own business some 50 years ago. This business is still running but nowadays concentrates on computer systems and IT.

Howard’s father Peter Smith has been in the typewriter business from the age of 15. Peter started his working life as an apprentice with Underwood Business Machines. We are pretty sure that Peter is most probably the only surviving Underwood apprentice. He's now 94 but can still give good advice on old typewriters.

We specialise in giving a very personalised service to customers that want their old typewriters repaired and can offer anything from a simple repair to a complete rebuild, we have facilities to make parts if we cannot get hold of them.
